Summary

His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi describes Maharishi Vedic Agriculture, particularly with reference to India, in his book: Celebrating Perfection in Education. The following extract from that book serves as a summary of the information presented previously:

Maharishi:

"For agriculture to be scientific it has to be Vedic Agriculture, and if the study of agriculture is not supported by the theories of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, etc., then agriculture cannot be scientific. All theories of modern science uphold all disciplines of Vedic Science because Vedic Science is fundamental to modern science.

The very word ‘Agri-culture’ calls for agreeing with the culturing intelligence of Natural Law. In order to realize Vedic Agriculture, the consciousness of the farmer should be Vedic.

The Vedic Consciousness of the farmer means the scientific consciousness of the farmer because everything that is Vedic is in full accord with all the theories of modern science–anything that is Vedic is fully supported by all the Laws of Nature–Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, etc. This is the reason why all the Laws of Nature, discovered through the objective approach of modern science, are lively in Vedic consciousness.

With Vedic consciousness, all the farmer’s thought, speech, and action will be according to Natural Law. Seasons will come on time, crops will be abundant–everything will be scientific. The crops will grow with mathematical precision because all theories of Mathematics will make every phase of the farmer’s life mathematically precise in every step of progress in all directions. The natural process of evolution will win the favor of all the laws of Chemistry to support the physiology of the soil, seed, and weather conditions.

By having Vedic consciousness, all the theories of Natural Law will be lively in the intelligence of the farmer. With morning and evening meditation and Yogic Flying, the farmer will be growing in higher states of consciousness; his wishes will be honored by Natural Law–his consciousness will be in accord with all the theories of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physiology, etc., that modern science has so far discovered.

In Vedic terminology, the Vedic Consciousness of the farmer will enjoy the support of the infinite creativity of ‘Deva adhi vishwe’– the Administrators of the Universe–the specific and holistic qualities of intelligence that are lively in Vedic Consciousness –Transcendental consciousness–Parame vyoman.

What a loss to the life of the nation when these precious Vedic Sutra are not being recited by the children of the farmers in their schools and colleges. The effect of western education is so poisonous for the life of the farmer on whom the collective consciousness of the village, the whole population, depends for the quality of the crops–the quality of food. From this point of view, Vedic Education for the family of the farmer is so vital that its importance can never be sufficiently emphasized.

It will be the joy of the farmer to see the crops growing through the nourishing sounds of Veda and the Vedic Literature, and their nourishing effect will bring the unseen quality of Natural Law to blossom in the crop. The unseen will become manifest more thoroughly. The crop will grow in increasing health for the harvest season through the effect of the Vedic Sounds.

The soil, the seed, and the weather conditions will all be in favor of the private and professional life of the farmer. In short, the fortune of the Vedic Farmer will blossom in affluence. The farmer’s life will blossom in its parental role for the whole nation. The gift of the Vedic Farmer and Vedic Farming will be a new dawn for health and happiness, season after season.

Every harvest season will witness the smile of angels in Heaven, and the new taste of healthy food. Timely winds, timely rains, and timely sunshine will be at the disposal of the farmer to support every step of his profession, season after season.

This ancient Indian technique of having everything favorable for the farmer on the basis of his Vedic consciousness has been destroyed by thousands of years of foreign rule. Now the Vedic Consciousness of the farmer will make the farmer smile in his fields, and the happy farmer entering his field will be welcomed by the smiles of every plant in his field. He will celebrate the waves of higher consciousness within himself every day in his home, and bless the whole population–season after season–generation after generation.

The Vedic Consciousness of the farmer will produce a Vedic quality in the crop, which will produce a Vedic quality of food, which will create a Vedic quality in the consciousness of the whole population–Vedic consciousness–which will spontaneously create Vedic administration, because the government is governed by collective consciousness.

One little country saying in India emphasizes the quality of food:

This means that the thinking and behavior of the whole population has its basis in the quality of food.

If the procedure of growing food in the fields is enriched and supported by the Vedic Vibrations of all the forty qualities of intelligence available in the forty branches of the Vedic Literature, the quality of food will be nourishing for all, and the thought, speech, action, and behavior of everyone will be in the direction of evolution. Society will enjoy fresh waves of progress, season after season. Governmental administration will be free from problems. The benefit for the government will be the creation of a problem-free society, a problem-free government, and successful administration satisfying to everyone–exalted Vedic Administration.

The farmer’s pious profession must be enriched through Vedic Farming and Vedic everything–Vedic Education, Vedic Health Care, Vedic Administration, Vedic Defense. The Vedic Consciousness of the farmer, lively in theVedic Principle of protection and prevention–

"Avert the danger that has not yet come," (Yog-Sutra, 2.16)–will provide the influence of invincible defence–protection from the destruction of the seed, soil, and weather conditions–protection from all injuries caused by anything–caused by insects, lack of timely rain, poor market conditions, lack of governmental support, etc.–it will be shielded by Krishi Kavach.

Krishi and Krishak–farming and farmer–will be protected by an armour of protection created by the forty values of Creative Intelligence, which are the constituents of Natural Law that administer the universe with perfect order, harmony, and perpetual progress, protecting everything from everything else. Vedic Consciousness is the secret of success of the farmer’s profession. For agriculture to be scientific the Vedic Consciousness of the farmer is the means.

The means to achieve Vedic Agriculture is to develop Vedic Consciousness through Vedic Education, Vedic Approach to Health, Vedic Administration, Vedic Defense, and Vedic Industry.
