Maharishi’s Program to Eliminate Poverty

Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture Institute has as one of its primary goals to eliminate poverty in the world. There are 6 billion people in the world today, 3 billion of which are living in poverty–with at least 1.5 billion living in extreme poverty. This misery in the lives of so many people affects every one of us. This is especially true when the natural resources inherent in the land of each county are enough to generate sufficient wealth to totally eradicate poverty.

The central theme of Maharishi’s Program to Eliminate Poverty is to grow Maharishi Vedic Organic food on unused, fertile land in the developing countries, and market it in the consumer nations. In this way the poorest countries can "turn dry sand to gold," and create economic self-sufficiency for themselves, while enlivening perfect health in the wealthy nations.

There is no reason for poverty to continue in the world when the 33 poorest countries are rich in land. The vast potential of this unused land can work hand in hand with the growing awareness throughout the world of the harmful effects of chemical farming and genetically engineered products. This awareness is rapidly creating a rising demand for pure organic food. Some food retailers are predicting that this demand will grow ten-fold in the next decade alone, and already organic production is barely keeping up with demand. So this is the brilliant theme Maharishi has formulated–poverty can be now removed from every land by fulfilling the rising demand for pure organic food.

No government can feel comfortable calling itself a government while its ability to eradicate poverty is not being actualized.
