Appendix 1: Maharishi Vedic Agriculture University
Maharishi Vedic Agriculture University, established in cooperation with Maharishi University of Management, is an affiliate and sister organization to Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture Institute. The University will teach courses and offer degrees in Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture. Its curriculum will offer the knowledge and application of the most basic levels of Natural Law in the field of agriculture. By taking recourse to the most fundamental level of Natural Lawthe Unified Field of all the Laws of Naturethe soil, seed, the weather, and the farmer will receive the full support of Natural Law, bringing fulfilment to the purpose of agriculture. Maharishi Vedic Agriculture University brings a holistically, nourishing perspective to agricultureprinciples and practices that will form the core of the Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture Institute educational programs. The following are the central points of knowledge that Maharishi Vedic Agriculture University brings to agriculture.
Practical Purposeful Programs All of the programs of MVOAI and Maharishi Vedic Agriculture University emphasize the practical application of this knowledge of Natural Law in agriculture. Some of the main points of application include the following points:
Maharishi Lands of World Peace Maharishi Vedic Organic Farms are the concrete expression and the lively foundation of Maharishis global program to eliminate poverty. Maharishi Vedic Organic Farms are the 'Lands of World Peace, because Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture is a program based on life energy, life-force, and the intelligence of life, which naturally, silently, in the most peaceful way, administers the evolutionary process of life in the plant kingdom. All these 'Lands of World Peace'patches of land with maximum fertility and lively nourishing powerwill together form the nucleus of Maharishi's Global Country of World Peace. Research on Food Vitality Maharishi Vedic Agriculture University is currently examining research conducted in many parts of the world on what scientists are calling the 'life' or vitality value in food. This research is bringing to light that there are factors beyond the traditional, nutritional value of food. Generally, the nutritional value of food is defined by analyzing its chemical constituents (proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, etc.). It is assumed that the nutritional, or health value of food results from the measurable composition of substances only. This viewpoint, limited to the material aspect, overlooks the fact that all living things are part of an integrated wholenessan organizing intelligence that promotes the evolution of all life. This integral organizing activity cannot be seen by analyzing the material components, but it is expressed in the growth, development, reproduction, and characteristic transformationsthe changing of forms and structuresduring the life cycle of all living organisms. These meaningful, integral principles of evolutionary order are the unrecognized part of substance-forming. Quality research in the field of living substances needs research methods suitable to the phenomena of life. Not only the substance of food but also its organizing activity (the organizing intelligence) has to be included for its complete scientific analysis. The enlightened theory of scientists today is that it is not the physical substances alone that nourish us, but it is a rather a more important factorthe organizing, form-developing activitythe intelligence, or consciousness of the plant that promotes the evolution of all living organisms. One of the methods that scientists are using now is a system of bio-crystallizationa unique picture-forming technique that is able to appreciate this holistic quality. It takes into account both the material substances and their organizing power (the intelligence that promotes all aspects of its evolution) simultaneously. This has been found to be a holistic and systematic method of assessing the quality of food, especially to discriminate between the quality of organic and conventional agriculture. It measures not only nutritional value, but also the life-sustaining quality, which some scientists call Vitalquality. This Vitalquality is a term that attempts to express the intelligence at the basis of all forms and phenomena in Nature. Pure Intelligence has a dynamic, self-referral three-in-one structure. As such, it has been identified at the basis of all disciplines of modern science in terms of the specificity of their fundamental self-referral processes. In Physics, the three-in-one structure is available in the UNITY of Hilbert Space, Operators, and States. In Chemistry, the three-in-one structure is available in the UNITY of Transformation Laws (the Schrodinger equation, conservation laws), Chemical Reaction (process of transformation), and Participating Elements (reactants and products). In Mathematics, Set Theory, which is at the foundation of modern Mathematics, provides a very fundamental three-in-one structure-the UNITY of Sets, Membership Relation, and Elementsexpressed by the formula a = E S. This formula means that objects (called 'Elements') are located (i.e. a Membership Relation' is established) within an encompassing wholeness (called 'Set'). In Physiology, the UNITY of Information Units, Processing Units, and Structural Units is clearly related to the three-in-one structure of intelligence, or consciousness. The results of this research over the past few years have shown a very high reproducibility and a very reliable assessment in many experiments. Comparing the quality of organic with conventional products, organic food was always found to be closer to perfect. What is generally found through the crystallization process is that organic food substances display a very fine, very orderly, and intricate crystalline pattern; whereas in chemically grown food substances, grown under less optimum conditions, the crystal structures are more chaotic. In a nutritional context, there is adequate research to conclude that the organically grown foodstuffs that produce the fine, orderly crystalline structures are those that improve health, growth, immune reaction, and vitality. The crystallization process that 'pictures' the quality of the structuring intelligence in organic substancesthe life-giving or 'vitalquality'introduces a very important factor for determining quality products, and for educating and inspiring consumers to demand food with nourishing power. Our Living Water In the ancient Vedic Literature, great power and glory is attributed to the flowing waters, the sacred rivers, especially to the Ganga River. Ganga is adored as the personified form of pure learning and compassion. Endowed with knowledge, organizing power, and action, Ganga is known to have the nature of life-giving nectar (Amrit) and bliss. The Skanda Puran of the Vedic Literature declares that all the most cherished and divine values of life are present in the subtle form of Ganga, and that in this span of timeKali-YugaGanga is a primary means of purification. This life-giving, life-sustaining quality of water is the topic of another area of research that Maharishi Vedic Agriculture University is examining. Water is known to absorb all influences from the environment, positive and negative alike, which it then passes on to all living beings. If, however, water is damaged, it will supply harmful rather than vital qualities. So if we poison our water we are actually poisoning ourselves. With the rise of air and water pollution (from agro-chemicals, industrial contamination, etc.), our waters are being damaged, and scarcity of fresh, healthy water is an issue in most countries, even developed countries, where tap water is not even considered drinkable. Scientists in Germany have found that it is due to this susceptibility of water to vibrational imprinting that also makes it take on the imprints of environmental pollutants and chemicals with which it has been in contact. Conventional water treatment systems may remove pollutants from the water, but the cluster structure of the water will still convey the vibrational pattern of toxins and chemicals to the human body. Fortunately today, natural systems are being developed to re-energize and restore the natural purity and life-sustaining quality to water. Research on water, using a crystallization process of freezing the water in a laboratory dish to minus 20 degrees Centigrade and observing the crystal formation through a microscope in a minus 5 degree Centigrade room, has highlighted the natural characteristic structure of different quality waters. Results have shown that fresh natural waters create beautiful, fine intricate crystal shapes; whereas polluted waters only form muddy blobs of ice. Research on the effect of music on water also has some interesting findings. Different compositions of western and eastern classical and contemporary music were played to water. The crystal shapes that formed when the water was frozen pictured very exactly the quality of the musicsome quite fine crystal structures, some broken into pieces, some uneven and distorted in shape, some very ugly with holes. These findings may be explained by the fact that every kind of water has a different molecular cluster structure with corresponding different vibrational modes. This cluster structure of water is transformed by other qualities of vibration in its environmentit records the information from its environment. Scientists conclude that this phenomena makes it possible to say that water, like anything else in creation, is the expression of consciousness. From the Vedic perspective, which has a tradition of using water as a medium to carry healing sound waves, this research on water is really significant and proves what is documented in the ancient Vedic Literature. As harmony and balance is restored to the environment, water will regain its pure, life-sustaining quality, and this, in the context of Vedic Organic Agriculture, will produce the best agricultural product for the health, wealth, and happiness of our world family.
